Thinking of taking a bike ride on Staten Island? Your safety (and your life) may be at risk.
Although NYC traffic regulations say it is illegal for motorists to obstruct, stand, stop or park in a bike lane, some Staten Island officials are fighting hard to allow motorists to do just that. Although NYC and other progressive cities are making streets safer for cyclists and pedestrians, our local leadership is publically advocated eliminating bike lanes and are encouraging motorists to break the law.
City Council member Vincent Ignizio has encouraged drivers to park in bike lanes, and asks the NYPD to not ticket them.

City Council Member James Oddo has joined Council Member Ignizio in calling for the elimination of "share the road" pavement markings on the Jefferson Ave bike route.

Borough President James Molinaro wants the Father Capodanno Blvd bike lane eliminated, and asks the NYPD to not ticket motorists who use it as a turning lane.
